Infirmary Hospice Care

Infirmary Hospice Care offers specialized support and medical care to terminally ill patients. Our care may be provided at home, a skilled nursing facility or a hospital. We work closely with the patient’s family to develop a comprehensive plan for providing care that supports both the patient and others affected by the patient’s terminal illness.

Our approach to hospice care is based on the following principles:

  • Our goal is to help the terminally ill person live as fully, comfortably and  independently as possible.
  • Recognizing each person’s need to maintain control over their own life, we include the patient and their loved ones in all decisions relating to their care.
  • Hospice care focuses on maintaining dignity, increasing quality of life and providing comfort through pain and symptom management.
  • We provide support and care primarily in the patient’s home, so the patient and family can remain together in a familiar environment.

Eligibility

According to the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization, only one in three people in the U.S. eligible for hospice care receives it, even though it is covered by Medicare, Medicaid and most insurance plans.

A physician determines if a patient is eligible for hospice. The patient must have a terminal diagnosis with a life expectancy of six months or less if the disease runs its normal course. Coverage for hospice care must meet specific eligibility criteria for each disease. To request a free hospice consultation, call 251-435-7460.

Infirmary Hospice Care is reimbursed under Medicare, Medicaid and most private insurance plans.
